Mother to bury second son lost to war

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - An Arkansas family with ties to Hampton Roads is coping with a heartbreaking loss. On Monday, the family traveled to Dover, Delaware to receive the remains of their son, who was killed in war.

At the end of the week, the family will bury their son beside his brother, who was also a casualty of war.

"Lots of prayer and hope, but that's this family," said Dana Wise. "What can you say to someone who lost two boys? There are really no words. I don't even know if she has words."

Dana is referring to her mother-in-law, Mary Wise. Dana lost her husband, Jeremy, two years ago in Afghanistan. Jeremy was a Navy SEAL.

"The family is so close. Jeremy would talk with the family every day. At least two members a day. They are loving, laughing and very much a part of all their lives, even if they were spread all over the country," Dana said.

So you can imagine the heartbreak when word came Jan. 10 that Jeremy's brother, Ben, a U.S. Army Green Beret, was struck down by six bullets in Afghanistan.

"She was just broken, but we prayed and she said, 'He's not going to die. He's not going to die'," Dana said of her conversation with Mary.

But five days later, Ben died.

A website dedicated to Ben's memory has been established.

The third and only living son, Beau, is in the Marine Corps.

Ben's burial is scheduled for Friday. In accordance with his last wishes, Ben will be buried in a Suffolk cemetery next to his brother, Jeremy.
