VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - After two and a half years, detectives arrested and charged the mother of an 11-month-old who was found dead at a home on Gunter Street in May 2009.

Julie M. Calahan, 23, of the 100 block of E. Maple Street, of Brinkley, Arkansas, was charged with murder, according to a Virginia Beach police news release.

In May 2009, the baby's uncle, Stephen C. Calahan, was charged with the child abuse.

The detectives' efforts along with the assistance of Child Protective Services led to charges against the mother.

Police said Julie Calahan moved to Arkansas in 2009 and was taken into custody with the assistance of the Arkansas State Police.

She was extradited back to Virginia Beach in January and is awaiting trial.

She is currently being held in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.
