VIRGINIA BEACH, Va (WAVY) - Changes are being made at the Virginia Beach motel where a woman claims her baby found a spoon coated with cocaine and put it in his mouth.

Jahmai Portis' mother, April, said the incident happened at the Motel 6 on Euclid Road.

The motel has 130 rooms.

Valerie Thompson, Environmental Supervisor at the Virginia Beach Health Department , told WAVY.com officials with the department inspected all of the motel's vacant rooms on Monday. There were guests staying in 50 rooms, so that means the inspector went into 80.

"When we go into a room we're looking at the carpet, we're going to be looking at the bedding, we're going to be looking at the bathrooms, we're going to be looking at general overall sanitation, which involves pulling the mattress and box springs up and we get housekeeping and maintenance to help us do that," Thompson said.

Thompson also said that Motel 6's corporate office in Maryland sent a manager, maintenance and cleaning crew to Virginia Beach to begin cleaning each room. When an inspector went back Tuesday morning, he said he could already see a big difference.

10 On Your Side called Motel 6 to ask if we could see for ourselves, but no one has returned our call.

The health department will do a follow-up inspection in two weeks.

The baby who allegedly ingested cocaine at the motel was taken to the hospital and has since been released. He is doing well.
