VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Police say a man was shot in the arm by an unknown man Thursday afternoon at a busy Virginia Beach street.

According to Grazia Moyers with the Virginia Beach Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area of the 600 block of Newtown Road at 2:30 p.m.

Moyers said the victim told officers he was shot by an unknown suspect who fled the scene toward Lake Edward. The victim has since been transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the suspect is described as a black man and was wearing black pants and a red hooded sweatshirt at the time of the crime.

Officers spent the afternoon in the area of the shooting, canvassing for the suspect and speaking with possible witnesses. As of Thursday at 5 p.m., Moyers said a motive for the shooting had not been identified.
