VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A man suspected of accessing and distributing child pornography was arrested Wednesday, during which investigators discovered 72 marijuana plants growing in his residence.
Ian Boyer, 43, of Kenneth Road in Virginia Beach, has been charged for allegedly accessing and distributing child pornography on his computer, as well as distribution of marijuana.
For several months, Virginia Beach Police detectives had their eyes on a home on Kenneth Road.
"We're very proud of the hard efforts that our investigators have been putting into this case," said Virginia Beach Police Officer Margie Hobbs.
The computer inside the the Boyer's home caught the attention of detectives. Someone was sending and receiving child pornography, and Boyer was pinpointed.
"He seemed like a really nice guy," said one of Boyer's neighbors. "I would never expect that out of him."
But when officers went to Boyer's home to make the arrest, they found much more.
"Many times criminals will be involved in not only one criminal activity, they will be involved in others," Hobbs said.
In addition to the pornography on his computer, police say they discovered 72 marijuana plants growing inside with a street value of $72,000. Neighbors say they had no idea.
"Those two combinations are the worst combinations you can have--drugs and child pornography," Boyer's neighbor said.
Boyer is being held in the Virginia Beach Correctional Facility without bond.
