VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A marine biologist from Virginia Beach is helping dolphins recently stranded along Cape Cod.
Linda D'Eri is a member of the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center . In Massachusetts, she helped assess the health of the dolphins, as well as with herding attempts.
More than 129 dolphins have been stranded since Jan. 12. Most appear to be in good health. Biologists have been able to release about 40 of them back into the ocean, but some had to be euthanized on the spot.
Scientists don't know why so many dolphins are beaching themselves. Scientists say while strandings do happen, they've never seen this many before.
