VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - The American Red Cross is assisting those in need after the tragic Naval jet crash Friday afternoon.
Rob Shapiro with the American Red Cross said teams of volunteers are on scene helping everyone out and those teams are working with families to find out what it's going to take to help their situation.
He added they have a large scale operation and are confident in their abilities to assist.
Families, including pets, will receive assistance. "Everyone is working to help entire families, that includes pets," Shapiro said.
At this time, shelters have been set up at Birdneck Elementary located at 957 S. Birdneck Road for those in need.
The City of Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center, located at 341 S. Birdneck Road., will be taking in pets for the residents in the jet crash impact area only.

Additionally, local hotels are offering assistance. The Holiday Inn Oceanside is offering extended stay rates for those in need. Contact the Holiday Inn Oceanside at 757-491-1500.
Anyone who believe friends or family members in Mayfair Mews Apartments may be missing is asked to call 385-3111 to provide information on the person.
