Giuliani campaigns for Romney in VB

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani spoke at a Veterans Rally for Romney in Virginia Beach Thursday.

This visit was just one day before President Barack Obama's visit to both Hampton and Virginia Beach on Friday.

Giuliani told the crowd at the VFW General MacArthur Memorial Post no. 392 Obama isn't looking for a second term, he's looking for a second chance. The former mayor articulated that if Obama is elected again, security will be weakened. It's an argument especially convincing to retired US Air Force Communications Officer Captain Carl Anderson.

"A strong military is absolutely important to keeping us strong and keeping our freedoms," Anderson said.

Giuliani said Romney has made it a priority to increase the number of services available in the military to counter post-traumatic stress disorder.

Giuliani dismissed speculation that the Romney campaign sent him to the Hampton Roads area to compete with the President's visit Friday as a last-minute effort.

"For me, that's not last minute," Giuliani said. "Sometimes I'm asked to do something two days before."

Giuliani also recognized the importance of Virginia in this year's election.

"If [Romney] can win Virginia, it probably means he's also won Florida [and] he's also won Ohio," Giuliani said.

The Associated Press reports Giuliani will headline the grand opening of a Henrico County GOP headquarters Friday.
