VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - First responders from the City of Virginia Beach and NAS Oceana trained for an emergency of the scope of last year's jet crash Wednesday afternoon.

The crews simulated an exercise involving a tractor driver rupturing a pipeline carrying jet fuel.

In April of last year when a Navy jet crashed into the Mayfair Mews Apartments near the Oceanfront, local and federal agencies combined for a seamless response that earned national praise.

"I've reflected about that many, many times and I've always been a big believer in training. I think as aviators it's engrained into our blood that training is life," NAS Oceana Commanding Officer Capt. Bob Geis said.
