VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A sheriff’s deputy discovered a fire while serving a warrant in Virginia Beach Wednesday.
Chief Pat Seigh with the Virginia Beach Fire Department said the fire was discovered around 1:10 p.m. in the 1900 block of Blue Knob Road. Crews arrived on scene minutes later and had the fire out by 1:40 p.m.
Deputy David Beers discovered the fire and alerted the home's residents.
"They came out and had no idea it was on fire so we got them out," Beers said. "I told him to grab the garden hose and we started working on the flames."
Seigh said the garage suffered moderate fire damage. There was also moderate damage to an exposure adjacent to the home.
The cause remains under investigation. Seigh did not specify if the fire occurred at the home the deputy was trying to serve a warrant at or one nearby.
