VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A Virginia Beach 7-Eleven clerk shot a suspect after he attempted to rob the store.
On Tuesday, Jan 3 at approximately 1 a.m., police said Blake Christian Richardson, 18, of the 1100 block of Bay Colony Drive, attempted to rob the 7-Eleven store at 3908 Atlantic Avenue.
Police said the suspect entered the store and pulled out a gun. The suspect demanded money and the victim walked to the register. The victim retrieved his own weapon and pointed it at the suspect.
Police said the suspect appeared to make a threatening movement toward the victim when the victim fired his weapon at the suspect and the suspect ran from the business.
The clerk was not injured and immediately called 911.
Around 1:30 a.m., a man walked into a hospital with a gunshot wound. Investigators determined that this was the same person responsible for the 7-Eleven robbery.
Richardson was charged with attempted armed robbery, abduction, and two counts of use of a firearm and wearing a mask. He is out of the hospital and is now in jail.
The clerk is not facing charges at this time. The Commonwealth's Attorney will look at the case and consider whether or not to consider filing charges, according to police spokesman Jimmy Barnes.
