Chicken coop case continued to January

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A fight for a rural chicken coop has been continued to January, according to prosecutors.

Tracy Okroy, who owns two dozen chickens and keeps them in her backyard off Crepe Myrtle Court has kept her feathered friends for more than two years.

Recently, someone called Animal Control officers to her home and Okroy was charged with keeping poultry in a residential area.

"Obviously we have rules and laws against nuisance," Okroy's lawyer Gary Byler said. "If you're in a residential area, you ought to be entitled to peace and quiet. These chickens are not bothering anybody. My understanding is that none of the neighbors have complained. There is no smell or noise."

The case was continued to Jan. 29, 2013 because a witness for the city could not testify Tuesday.
