VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Support continues to pour in for the families of the 30 servicemen killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.
Most of the fallen were Navy SEALs, based in Virginia Beach. But as the SEALs continue to get most of the attention, local Navy wives are making it their mission to remember two other locally-based service members: Explosive Ordinance Disposal Technician Chief Petty Officer Nicholas Null , and Senior Chief Petty Officer Kraig Vickers .
Navy wives Amanda and Lupe haven't slept much.
"We've been up baking cookie dough every night this week," Amanda said. "Just doing as much as we can."
The only thing rising more than the batter in their kitchen is the sweet smell of hope.
"It feels good to help the families in need after this tragedy," Lupe said.
Both wives feel for the families who were left behind.
"I put myself in their shoes immediately," Lupe added.
"It is a possibility that at some point my husband may not come home, but I hope that doesn't happen," Amanda said. "I don't have a plan for that. I don't want to have a plan for that."
The wives hope Friday's bake sale will raise at least $10,000 for the families. The sale will be held at various Hampton Roads locations, including all of the Hampton Roads bases.
You can find more information about the Bake Sale to Benefit Fallen EOD Soldiers on their Facebook page.
