VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - The October 23 deadline to approve an arena at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront has been delayed indefinitely.
Mayor Will Sessoms confirmed to WAVY.com he met with Comcast-Spectacor's President and COO Peter Luukko Wednesday and explained to him the city would need more time to make a decision.
Sessoms said he told Luukko he wants to make sure the public does not feel like the city is rushed to make a decision on such an expensive and important project.
There is no date set yet on when a public hearing will be held but Sessoms said both sides now understand the arena will not be built unless a professional sports team is attached to it as a tenant.
