Accused officer killer claims innocence

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The man accused of killing Norfolk Police Officer Victor Decker says he is willing to take a polygraph test to prove his innocence

Raymond Lewis Perry, 20, was arraigned Friday in General District Court.

In a jailhouse interview, he told WAVY.com, "I'm innocent. I'm not guilty. I don't even know Officer Victor Decker."

He claims "jailhouse informants" trying to get their sentences cut snitched on him and that's what led police to arrest him for the crime.

Perry was arraigned on charges of first-degree murder, armed robbery and two counts of use of a firearm. He was given a court-appointed attorney and scheduled a preliminary hearing date of Sept. 21.

Decker's widow was in attendance at the court hearing and was quickly escorted out when it ended.

Police told WAVY.com Perry was serving an 88-year sentence in South Carolina for a series of robberies when he was charged with Officer Decker's murder. Perry was extradited to Virginia Beach Thursday.

Decker, 25, was shot and killed in October 2010. Police say his body ways found next to his truck off the side of the road. Decker was off duty at the time.

Investigators say they conducted more than 200 interviews in this case.
