VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - The Mayflower Marathon ended with a roar in Virginia Beach Sunday afternoon.

The Motorcycle Enthusiasts Club of South Hampton Roads rode up to Pembroke Mall with food and money donations and wanted to make sure those who need food this Thanksgiving would get the basics to have a good meal with their families.

“We wanted to have a reason to get together to help the community,” Ride organizer Tony told WAVY.com “We already knew FM-99 was doing the event with the food drive of Virginia, so we thought it would be a perfect opportunity to put everybody together to use the resources. Then we came up with the idea to bring it all here instead of trying to create our own food drive somewhere else.”

“I saw at least three pickup trucks just loaded with food, so they brought in a tremendous amount of food,” Ken Thomas with the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia said.

The three-day food drive collected more than 480,000 meals for the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia and the Food Bank of the Virginia Peninsula.
