RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) - Two Virginia Beach firefighters received the Virginia Medal of Valor today from Governor Bob McDonnell for their acts of bravery in a rescue.

Captain William “Billy” Reynolds and Master Firefighter/Paramedic Hope Scott rescued a 1-year-old infant from a house fire on Oct. 12, 2010 at 468 Jeanne St. When they arrived at the fire-engulfed house that day and learned an infant was inside, the two rescue workers entered the house without the security of a charged hose line. They crawled on their hands and knees in zero visibility, moving toward the faint sounds of the crying baby. After exiting the house, the unresponsive baby was placed in the arms of waiting EMS crew members and was resuscitated to health.

The ceremony is today at 3 p.m. in Richmond. Also included in the ceremony is a captain with the Virginia Department of Corrections, a Virginia state trooper, an officer with the Hillsville Police Department and a deputy with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office.
