NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The USS Cole returned to Virginia Saturday following a nine-month deployment.
WAVY.com was there when the guided-missile destroyer returned to its homeport of Naval Station Norfolk on Saturday morning.
While deployed, the Cole participated in its first ballistic missile defense operations mission. Before its April 2012 deployment to the Mediterranean Sea, it hadn't deployed since September 2010.
The ship is commanded by Cmdr. Peter K. Nilsen and has a crew of about 300.
