VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - A major national food-distribution company plans to close its Virginia Beach warehouse and offices as part of its plan to consolidate operations.
U.S. Foodservice Inc. said its Virginia Beach operations will close by the end of January. Some of its 206 Virginia Beach employees will get a chance to transfer to other company facilities, and those who aren't able to do so will get severance benefits. The company said it will serve restaurants and other customers in the region from larger, newer warehouses in Roanoke and Raleigh, N.C.
The Illinois-based company is the nation's second-largest food-distribution company behind Sysco Corp.
