HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Investigators say a malfunction in an electric baseboard heater sparked a Hampton apartment fire earlier this week.

Two people were rescued from a fire by fire crews Wednesday night after being trapped inside a second-story apartment, fire officials said.

The two were trapped in the 200 block of Hope Street just after 10 p.m. Both people were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Fire officials say the fire was contained to one room. A total of four people lived in the apartment and all were displaced. No one was injured.
