TME location investigated in Chesapeake

VDOT contractor could be illegally dumping debris

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Investigators are looking into the possibility of TME Enterprises, Inc. illegally tossing road debris in the City of Chesapeake.

Earlier this week, it was announced TME is facing misdemeanor charges for illegally dumping pollutants into the City of Norfolk's stormwater system.

Friday, Capt. Scott Saunders with the Chesapeake Fire Department said crews with the Chesapeake Fire Marshal's Office have located what "appears to be illegal dumping at a site leased by TME."

The property is owned by VDOT and rented by TME. It is located at 3904 South Military Highway.

Saunders said Norfolk Fire Investigators found TME illegally dumping debris at the Chesapeake site.

The Chesapeake Fire Marshal's Office and representatives from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality will conduct a follow-up investigation Tuesday.

"We have our Health Safety and Environmental Officer working with management staff to perform this investigation and, if needed, we will take swift action to correct any issues," TME President Matt Ehrenzeller told WAVY.com.

In the Norfolk case, TME "unlawfully put... any filth, chips, compost, construction debris, shavings, or any other substance" directly into the city's storm water system or into water leading to stormwater .

Document: TME summons

The documents state the polluting occurred between Jan. 16, 2013 and Feb. 6, 2013.

TME was most notably involved in the emergency pothole repairs on Interstate 264 eastbound late last week

Commonwealth Transportation Board officials told WAVY.com earlier this week TME's response time regarding the pothole repairs is under fire.

TME has been awarded more than $30 million by VDOT to conduct work in Hampton Roads. The company is looking to renew its contract with VDOT this spring.
