GLOUCESTER, Va. (WAVY) - Three people have died and at least 60 people were injured in Gloucester County after a tornado ripped through the area Saturday evening.
The three deaths were reportedly in the town of Coke, near Hickory Fork Road. None of the fatalities were in the same family or were in the same homes, Gloucester County Sheriff Steve Gentry said in a news conference.
Several homes on Hickory Fork Road were destroyed, and the hospital in Gloucester County is overflowing. Most of the people who were hurt suffered minor injuries.
A command center was set up five miles north of Page Middle School, which also suffered significant damage.
There are only two hotels near Page Middle School, and all of them are full due to what happened.
No one showed up at the shelter at Bethany United Methodist Church on Saturday, however, it will be open at 1 p.m. on Sunday for anyone who needs assistance from the Red Cross.
At this point, there are no active missing persons in Gloucester, but search and rescue efforts are still underway in Coke and Ware Neck.
Rescue crews are still going door-to-door making sure people are safe.
