MOYOCK, N.C. (WAVY) - For the third weekend in a row, the area has received snowfall. This time, as you headed South, you saw more snow.

WAVY.com went to parts just north of Elizabeth City Saturday morning, where at around 4 a.m. there was little to no snow falling. Shortly before 5 a.m., however, the snow began to pick up and by 9 a.m. there was about 2 inches on the ground.

Points further north, such as Moyock and Chesapeake, saw about a dusting to an inch of snowfall.

As for the roads, local and state plow trucks were standing by along the shoulders ready to treat the roads if need be. However, accumulation was not significant enough in most parts of Hampton Roads to merit plowing. While streets may be slick in some spots, they are certainly passable.

The bigger issues for folks waking up Saturday morning was the accumulation of snow on cars left parked outside overnight as well as the cold temperatures.

Dolores Raper works at the Border Station on the Virginia-North Carolina line, she said she woke up in Elizabeth City to "... maybe an inch and a half or two, two inches of snow.... I had to clean it off my car. And I was scared it was going to ice over. If the temperature drops than that's when you run into problems with it being icy on the roads. But it wasn't [Saturday morning], it was very good."

Meteorologist Jeremy Wheeler wrote in his blog that he highest amounts of snowfall were seen overnight, from Bertie County N.C., Northeast up to Moyock, N.C.. Hampton Roads also saw some snow.

By Saturday noon, expect to see anywhere from a dusting (north) to 1″ (south) across the Hampton Roads cities. Near the NC/VA border, we could see 1″-2″.

Travel problems are likely for North Carolina for Saturday. For Virginia residents, travel problems are far less likely.
