VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Republican voters in Virginia Beach chose businessman Jeff McWaters to run for the 8th district seat left vacant by Ken Stolle.

McWaters won the election by a large margin over Virginia Beach City Councilwoman Rosemary Wilson.

McWaters told WAVY.com, "I am so humbled at the fantastic turnout Virginia Beach delivered today. Despite the horrible weather conditions, Virginia Beach voters have once again taken pride and participated in the significant constitutional right we as Americans have: the right to vote."

"I want to congratulate Rosemary Wilson on her campaign, and I look forward to working with her to address the many issues that concern and interest Virginia Beach voters," said McWaters.

Virginia Beach Democrats have yet to pick a candidate to run for the seat.

The general election will take place on January 12, 2010.
