CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - A 16-year-old girl was cut on her face by a 17-year-old suspect Tuesday afternoon when the two were involved in a physical altercation at Deep Creek High School in Chesapeake, police said.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:40 p.m. on the bus ramp at the school, police said. Police do not know what sharp object the suspect used to cut the other victim, nor the reason for the altercation.

The victim was transported to Chesapeake Regional Medical Center with two lacerations on her face that police say are non-life threatening.

The suspect was taken into custody by the school resource officer and later released to the custody of her parents. Police say petitions will be secured against the suspect Wednesday morning for malicious wounding.

The names of the suspect and victim will not be released due to the fact that they are minors.
