YORK CO. (WAVY.com) - You can hear the panic and the worry in young Zachary Covey's voice. The young video blogger taped the moments York/Poquoson Sheriff's deputies say 49-year-old James Perry Davis stabbed his ex-girlfriend in the optometrist office where she works.

Outside the Walmart on George Washington Memorial Highway a flood of law enforcement, guns and eyes focused on the front door.

"Just filming that moment I think captured a lot of emotions going around in the Walmart, not just by me, but everybody," said Zach, sitting outside his family's home.

The young video blogger carries a handheld camera wherever he goes. It was in his pocket Tuesday while shopping for clothes.

"I was sitting outside the dressing room waiting on my mom and my sister and the staff walkie-talkie went off saying there was a stabbing in the vision center."

Covey directed his mother and sister to an exit when he saw deputies come in and the manager run from the back.

"When I saw the manager running up saying get out that's when I knew we had to get out and I whipped out my camera right then and started filming the evacuation."

The family got caught up in the customers running for the doors said his mother Candace.

"We didn't have a cart, we had our items in our hand, we're heading for the door and I said put your stuff down and we just threw it by the register and we ran out."

Zachary kept rolling until the family left the area. After the experience, Zach went back to being a teen in the technology age.

"I basically shot the rest of my day. We went to Burger King to try to calm down and relax," he said.

New information obtained Wednesday revealed that Davis allegedly assaulted his 27-year-old girlfriend in June as well. Davis is currently behind bars at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail without bond.
