NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A Newport News man was indicted Wednesday by a federal grand jury in connection with an armed robbery of a Miller Mart in Newport News, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Michael Johnson Jr., 22, of Newport News, was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery and use of a firearm in reference to a crime of violence, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Police confirmed that Johnson is also a suspect in the 2007 murder of Dianne Green in a Hardee's restaurant.
The robbery indictment says that Johnson caused a co-conspirator to enter the Miller Mart early in the morning on June 22, 2006 and order ice cream. Johnson then followed, carrying a firearm. He demanded cash, lottery tickets and cigarettes, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.
The two then fled the scene. Johnson faces a maximum 47 years in prison if convicted in these crimes.
