NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Norfolk schools administrators are responding after several schools were announced not to have gotten full accreditation.
Dr. Samuel T. King, the new superintendent of the Norfolk Public Schools told WAVY.com he has a multi-year plan in place to help struggling students achieve success in school.

Standards of Learning tests showed 14 schools were not fully accredited and one, Lafayette Winona Middle School, was denied accreditation.
“The School Board and Dr. King have identified seven division improvement priorities for this school year, and the top priority is full accreditation,” Mather added.
King said changes are on the way and they start at the core.
"That's about teaching and learning in the classroom. How we support teachers, how we provide the necessary resources for teachers... across the board. We have a process in place for inspecting what we expect which means that we know from a formative stance the amount of learning that takes place in that classroom real time," King said.
Thirty-one schools in Norfolk did receive full accreditation, including Maury and Lake Taylor high schools, which were provisionally accredited the previous year.
