SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The work scheduled for the James River Bridge this weekend has been completed ahead of schedule according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Crews finished up the work around 1:00 a.m. Sunday and all lanes were reopened. The bridge's southbound lanes were supposed to be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday morning.

This weekend's work involved crews removing barrier walls for the upcoming grid deck replacement project.

The southbound lanes of the bridge are scheduled to be closed again next weekend beginning at 9 p.m. Friday October 5 and then will reopen on Monday October 8 at 5 a.m.

VDOT has rescheduled repairs on the James River Bridge southbound not to overlap with work on the Hampton Roads-Bridge Tunnel eastbound.
