Truck hits fire hydrant at library

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A truck struck a fire hydrant in front of a Suffolk library Monday morning.

Tim Kelley with the City of Suffolk said the truck struck a fire hydrant in front of Chuckatuck Branch Library in the 5800 block of Godwin Boulevard.

A leak occurred off the 16-inch transmission main, Kelley said. Crews are working to shut down the main. About 40 homes are within the shutdown area and will observe a water outage for some time. Other homes and businesses in the area may see a decrease in water pressure but will not lose service.

It is unknown how long the project could take, however, Kelley said it could take up to seven hours for repair work to be completed if the valve is damaged.

Access to the library is affected, though visitors can access it from the adjacent property.
