SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Officials say the driver of a tractor trailer was pronounced dead at the scene when his tractor collided with a train on Route 58.

According to Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk, the accident occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. Thursday on Route 58 eastbound close to the intersection of East Washington Street and Philhower Drive when a tractor trailer collided with a CSX train.

The impact scene was on the tracks leading into O'Malley's Used Auto Parts & U/C, located at 1325 Portsmouth Blvd. The CSX train was pulling four railcars loaded with rocks.

The train engineer and conductor did not require medical attention.

Chopper 10 pilot Steve Decker says it appeared as though the tractor trailer was pushed several hundred yards by the train.

Officials say the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
