Larceny victim has message for thief

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Every day for a month, thousands of drivers traveling on Goodwin Boulevard in Suffolk have passed by an unusual sign.

"I made the sign and put it up," business owner Maurice Dennis said. "It got a lot of attention, all good."

Dennis created a sign after someone stole a truckload of scrap metal from behind his business.

"I've been saving this aluminum for my grandson. He and I worked on a recycling project for the Cub Scouts. We've been working on it for two years," Dennis said. "It's really disappointing when you come and find it's all gone."

Dennis told WAVY.com he and his grandson planned to donate the money from the project to the Cub Scouts.

Although Dennis has filed a report with local police, he wanted the thief to know how angry he really was.

"After police left, I didn't know quite what to do so I made a sign," Dennis said.

The sign reads: "Low life, you stole from the Cub Scouts."

"The sign is for the criminal to let him know that he has violated me and violated my project that I had for my grandson," Dennis said.
