SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A hog truck overturned on Route 10 in the Chuckatuck section of Suffolk Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred around 4:45 a.m. in the 5900 block of Godwin Boulevard.

Police said the truck was heading to Smithfield when it ran off the right side of the road, rolled on its side, and struck a pole. The driver received minor injuries and was treated on the scene by Suffolk Fire and Rescue.

Godwin Boulevard was closed for more than eight hours, and residents helped gather pigs from the woods. Another company, Murphy Brown LLC, brought a truck to load up the pigs.

Around 1:20 p.m., police said they partially opened Godwin Boulevard to through traffic.

Traffic is now moving in both directions with alternate lane closings.

The incident took place near Oakland Elementary School, but the school was not closed.

The accident remains under investigation.
