SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A fire at BASF on Wilroy Road in Suffolk has been extinguished, however Fire and Rescue crews remained on the scene monitoring a hazardous material situation.
If you're unfamiliar with BASF, it's a checmical company in Suffolk. Units responded to the scene at around 11 a.m., according to a police spokesperson. Units cleared about two hours later.
Company representatives advised that they were potentially dealing with the chemical Acrylonitrile .
The Virginia Department of Emergency Management has been notified.
There were no mandatory evacuations and Wilroy Road remains open.
