SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Firefighters were able to contain an early morning fire at a Suffolk landfill Monday.

Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk said firefighters were dispatched to the regional landfill located at 1 Bob Foeller Dr. just before 2:30 a.m. for a report of a structure fire. There, they found plastic and aluminum materials on fire inside the Bi-Metals Recycling, LLC building.

“Heavy equipment has to be brought in to push the massive amount of burning materials outside of the building so that they could be extinguished,” Klink said in a release.

The fire was contained within an hour and the structure was saved from fire.

No one was injured in the incident and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
