SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Investigators are working to determine what sparked a fire Sunday night that destroyed not only a Suffolk home, but sheds owned by neighbors as well.
At 11:07 p.m. firefighters responded to a fully involved house fire in the 6000 block of Meadowlot Lane in the Chuckatuck area of Suffolk, according to Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk.
Once firefighters arrived on scene they noticed the fire had quickly spread from the two-story house to four adjacent sheds on the property. One of the sheds belonged to the tenant who was renting the home, another shed was owned by the owner of the house and the other sheds belonged to neighbors in the area.
With the help of one ladder truck, four engines, a tanker truck, air trailer, rehab bus, medic, the Battalion Chief and the Chuckatuck Volunteer Chief, the fire was brought under control at 12:06 a.m.
A woman and her 5-year-old son who were renting the house were not home at the time of the fire. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
