SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Suffolk police say a teen dressed as the Chick-fil-A cow broke her leg when she was struck by a driver who quickly fled the scene.
Brittany Knight, 19, suits up as the Chick-fil-A cow every day and stands on Main Street in Suffolk promoting the restaurant.
Monday afternoon, Knight was on her way outside when she was struck by a woman picking up food in the drive-thru. She said the woman got out of the car but quickly got back inside, paid for her food and left.
"Accidents do happen, so I'm more disappointed that she didn't stick around to make sure that I was okay," Knight said. "She just left me laying on the ground."
Knight suffered a broken leg as a result of the accident.
"The cow stands about 6-feet tall," Brittany's mother Susan Knight said. "It has big shoes, a big cow head and there's no way the woman [who crashed into her] didn't see that cow. If it wasn't for the cow head that she had on she would have busted her head."
Doctors will determine if surgery is needed Wednesday. Police told WAVY.com there is surveillance video of the accident.
"We're going to get her," Susan Knight said. "If she can hit and run a cow, she can hit and run a kid."
Knight's mother told WAVY.com she talked to Chick-fil-A corporate representatives, who said they are trying to figure out how to deal with Knight's medical bills.
