1,500 chickens perish in Suffolk fire

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The cause of a fire that killed approximately 1,500 chickens at a Suffolk poultry farm is under investigation.

According to Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk, the farm's owner called 911 just after 8 a.m. Friday for a fire at the rear of one of his three structures housing more than 21,000 chickens each.

The farm is located off Route 58 in the 500 block Milford Lane.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire and 1,500 chicken died. The Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause.
