SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A recycling company is looking for a few people willing to commit to paying $12 a month for recycling service in Suffolk.
TFC Recycling has almost reached its Earth Day goal of getting 3,000 households to sign up for "Big Bin" recycling.
The Chesapeake-based company will provide participants with a recycling container, similar to the trash containers the city provides.
Participants will be able to dump a wide variety of materials into the cans from cardboard and mixed paper to plastic and glass bottles. The materials will be picked up twice a month on trash day, according to a representative with the company. CLICK HERE TO FIND OUT WHAT CAN AND CAN'T BE PUT IN THE BINS.
About 1,900 people so far have said they're willing to pay for the service, but Ed Farmer, the company's vice president, expects that number to drop slightly when the company starts collecting billing information.
Farmer encourages people who have not yet decided on the program to go ahead and sign up. He said, "If [you're] on the fence, get in now."
After Earth Day, the company will evaluate the numbers and begin contacting those who expressed an interest in participating, gather their payment information and billing will begin.
Farmer is convinced that once the program starts, more people will sign up as they see others participating in the program.
