NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Tuesday, kids at Lindenwood Elementary in Norfolk met their match. Navy sailors off the USS Theodore Roosevelt gave them an intense workout with benefits that could last a lifetime.
Sailors taught the kids how to do proper situps and pushups and how to eat healthy, but school leaders said, most importantly, the students learned to never give up.
"One thing that I have learned is that they are always excited to be here and kids like motivation," said Alhaji Kabba with the U.S. Navy.
"It makes me want to push myself more," said fourth grader Kalen Deloatche.
Lindenwood Elementary principal, Danjile Henderson, said the students look forward to the sailors' visits.
The sailors have worked with Lindenwood Elementary for weeks.
During these sessions, hundreds of children have received mentoring in overall physical fitness from sailors on board the USS Theodore Roosevelt.
