Traffic reopened along Hampton Highway and Yorktown Rd around 8:30 this morning, hours after the streets had been closed because of a business fire in the 100 block of Hampton Highway.
Flames sparked inside the Boxx Blaney & Lachine Family Dentistry around 1:42am, Chief Chris Sadler said by phone. When crews got to the building, flames were shooting through the roof, he said.
Firefighters got the fire under control around 3:30am. The roof suffered heavy damage as a gaping hole could be seen. Crews spent an hour inside the building trying to fight the flames before attacking from the outside.
Crews snuffed out the flames just before 5am.
A fire official at the scene said dental records and charts were not damaged because flames were contained in the building's attic.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Look for updates on this story on WAVY.com and WAVY News 10 Midday.
