Smithfield apartments damaged by fire

ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - Heavy smoke and flames showed from a Smithfield apartment complex Friday afternoon.

According to the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department, stations 50, 60 and 10 in Isle of Wight County were dispached to 747 Wreen Road around 5:30 p.m. for a report of a structure fire. There, they found heavy smoke and flames showing from the second floor of the building.

Firefighters say the fire sparked in Apartment B and extended into adjacent units through the attic. Four apartments suffered significant damage.

No injuries were reported and the fire was under control in an hour.
