Showcase Select Imports under fire

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A car dealership in Newport News remains under investigation, and its procedures are under the microscope for a number of violations.

Many of you e-mailed 10 On Your Side with your horror stories from Showcase Select Imports on Jefferson Avenue.

"I'm in a really bad situation, and it's really messing up my credit, and I'm really upset," said Keith Curry.

Curry said he got taken by Janice Parker and Virgil Williams at Showcase Select Imports. It cost Curry about $100,000.

Williams called Curry last week. "He said I'm fully responsible for your loans. My lawyer and I are going to call you by the end of the week," said Curry.

That was two weeks ago, and Curry never heard anything.

The DMV has heard a lot and are now investigating Parker, Williams, and Showcase Select Imports for selling vehicles without titles, failing to deliver titles, and failing to pay off liens on trade-ins.

Curry said all those things happened to him.

Curry gave a $35,000 check to Showcase Select Imports for a 2003 BMW, and to payoff his Nissan Altima trade-in.

Curry said Parker and Williams never paid off the Nissan.

"They were paying off the loan, and then they stopped, and that's when I got suspicious. I thought it was out of my name," said Curry.

The Newport News Redevelopment and Housing Authority said Williams owes them, and taxpayers $140,000 on a defaulted community block grant loan.

Williams got the $175,000 block grant loan in April of 2008. He made payments without issue until November 2010. Then, he stopped making payments and asked for a payment reduction in January, but that was the last the Authority heard from Curry.

"Our Attorney has sent the letter and made the demand that he pay off the $140,000 in 10 days...if he doesn't then we will move to liquidate the security we have in the property," Curry said.

Williams is in full collapse. 10 On Your Side went to his million dollar home. No one was home, and the power was turned off. No one was home at Janice Parker's home either.

Curry said he was left high and dry by Williams who tried to explain what was going on in that phone call.

"He said he'd lost about two million dollars because of the economy. He said he lost it and he said this is the reason why this is happening," Curry said.

Before hanging up, Virgil Williams Jr. said he'd be in touch, but he hasn't been in touch. With all they know, WAVY.com was told DMV investigators will be moving quickly. DMV investigators said 60 potential victims have come forward.
