HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Watch out for zombies! That's the warning on the peninsula.
A WAVY Facebook fanĀ posted a picture showing a road sign that read "Caution Zombies Ahead". The electronic sign sat in front of Barron Elementary School in Hampton Tuesday. The sign was changed back to its appropriate message later in the afternoon. It now cautions drivers about pending pipeline construction.
According to the Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD), the signs are password protected, yet someone somehow managed to change the message overnight.
A Hampton city inspector noticed the altered message Tuesday morning and repositioned the sign so it could not be viewed until the contractor arrived on site to change the message back.
The contractor told HRSD something like this has never happened to him before.
In addition to the password, the contractor also installed locks to prevent access to the sign controls.
