HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) - Investor Warren Buffett challenged Republicans in Congress to help pay down the federal debt.

Hampton Roads Congressman Scott Rigell accepted the challenge and said he's in for 15 percent of his salary.

Rigell has been doing so since he took office.

So far, he's the only person to take up Buffett on his offer to match any contribution to pay down the national debt.

Monday, the pair met in Omaha, Nebraska. 10 On Your Side spoke to Buffett about Rigell over the phone after the meeting.

" [I] think he has decided that he got elected to go to congress... not to be a career politician, but to get something done for his country and I admire that," Buffett said.

Buffett also agreed to match Rigell's contribution from last year.
