VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - As the day began to wind down in Virginia Beach Tuesday, schools went on lock down for student safety.
Virginia Beach Police said they got a report of a person with a gun just before 3:00 p.m. in the area.
As a precaution, the schools moved the students inside for safety.
Kaicee Klock was one of those students.
"They just said there was a potential threat outside," said Klock, "and we couldn't go out."
Virginia Beach locked down six schools, all near Bayside High School: Luxford Elementary School, Diamond Springs Elementary School, Newtown Elementary School, Williams Elementary School, and Bayside Middle and High Schools. The lockdown lasted until 4:15 p.m.
Normal after school activities resumed, following an afternoon where the focus was safety instead of studies.
Police said they have not found a suspect, and it is a customary precaution to lockdown schools when there police receive reports of a possible threat.
