JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - A raccoon tested positive for the rabies virus in the Colonial Heritage area of James City County.
The raccoon was found in the 4300 block of Sprucemont, according to the Peninsula Health District.
Anyone having information regarding any exposure to this animal is asked to contact the Health Department at 757-253-4813.
Exposures also include direct contact between your pet and the rabid animal.
After hours, contact local Animal Control at 757-253-1800.
Rabies is a fatal, but preventable disease that has been in the wild animal population on the Peninsula since the mid 1980's.
