Presidents Park to close September 30

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) - Presidents Park in Williamsburg has educated and dazzled young and old alike since 2004. However, the cash-strapped park has been forced to close its doors by the end of September.

Park president Everette Newman hopes to sell the park to someone who wants to keep it going. If the park doesn't sell, it'll be forced to liquidate its assets and everything must go.

"It's a shame. This beautiful monument to the history of our country, and we're sorry that it's going to be closed," said park visitor, John Wilkinson.

Every President is in the park except for Obama. He never made it out of the gift shop. The cost to build and transport the bust of our current commander is more than $60,000, which they can't afford, so the Obama monument will be up for sale too.

The park offered guided tours, student programs, a performance venue, receptions and even dinners.

"We apologize to all who may be inconvenienced by our closing. We also apologize to the many children and adults who will miss this opportunity to visit this one of a kind United States Presidential experience," Newman stated on the park's website.

Approximately 350,000 people have visited the park since it opened.
