Potholes popping up after winter storm

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - VDOT crews are surveying highway conditions throughout Hampton Roads for potholes following last week's winter storm.

"The freezing, thawing cycle on the pavement can really pop up those potholes," Lauren Hansen with VDOT said. "So if a motorist does see a pothole appear, they can call our customer service center and help us expedite filling that pothole."

Hansen said pothole repairs were completed on the westbound side of Interstate 264 last year with a concrete patching project, but work begins this year on the eastbound lanes.

"There's still a large section on the eastbound stretch, that same area on 264, that actually hasn't started yet," Hansen said. "That'll start up in the spring. People should see an improvement of the pavement area in the spring to summertime of this year."

The multi-million dollar repair process has been done in phases beginning back in April 2011.
