Woman has message for burglars

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Ripped-off and fed up, a Portsmouth woman is lashing out against the crooks who burglarized her house last Monday and a police department she says isn't getting the word out to neighbors about similar crimes happening in the community.

Portsmouth resident Avis Sparrer put up a sign in her yard to get the word out about recent burglaries in her neighborhood as well as to send a message to those who burglarized her house.

The sign reads, "House robbed.  10-1-12.  Nothing left get a job."

The buglers didn't take away her sense of humor but they did get away with some of her belongings. Worse yet, she says it has happened to some of her neighbors recently but the victims are the only ones aware of the problem.

"It makes me feel bad that nobody out here knew about it. If I've had 70 people stop to read my sign and question if my house was really broken into, then nobody knew anything," Sparrer told WAVY.com.

Sparrer understands how busy the Portsmouth Police Department is dealing with more serious crimes in the City but would like to see them get a little more involved with this community.

"They know of all the burglaries that's gone down Brunswick, all the ones out here and nobody's doing anything. You know at least they could call people up and say okay robberies are taking place," she said.

In the mean time, Sparrer is doing her best to sound the alarm.
